Where to Order Takeout and Delivery in LA Right Now
All the best food you can order from your couch, whether you want tacos, fried chicken, or a luxurious Beef Wellington.
Before the pandemic, it was nearly unheard of for fine-dining restaurants to offer takeout or for premium seafood vendors to sell their goods to the public. But COVID-19 forced hundreds of restaurants and suppliers to start doing just that, and although our “normal” lives are mostly back in full swing, many continue to offer the option. Over time, these local establishments—in addition to some that have long provided their food to go—have perfected their services, and refined them into some of the best takeout and delivery in LA.
When you don’t feel like playing chef, check out these 20 stellar restaurants including essential Mexican cuisine, killer pizza, upscale Southeast Asian fare, and more. Grab something for easy pickup or delivery—and don’t forget to order directly from the restaurant whenever you can to help their bottom line.
Santa Monica
Interstellar, which reopened last fall with expanded breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, is one of Santa Monica’s most intriguing restaurant concepts. Owned by husband-and-wife team Chef Angie and Daniel Kim, who are both of Korean descent, the menu is strongly influenced by ingredients from Korea, Japan, and other Asian countries—like gochujang, ponzu, sambal, and nuoc mam—blended with American and Italian flavors. Popular dishes include the Korean Bulgogi Burger, which teams garlic-soy-sauce-marinated meat with mozzarella and aioli, as well as the Chicken & Waffle, which uses Japanese panko-fried chicken breast. Interstellar also enjoys an exclusive partnership with Ginza Nishikawa, the Japanese bakery behind LA’s cult-favorite artisanal milk bread, which is featured on the new lunch menu as part of several Japanese-style sandos.

West Hollywood
Beef Wellingtons are notoriously luxurious and labor-intensive, but thanks to this pandemic-born concept by Arya Alexander and Anastasia Geroulis, you can enjoy the puff-pastry-wrapped roast anytime. Early on in the pandemic, the couple was inspired by Gordon Ramsay’s signature Beef Wellington to make their own—which was so good they started selling them and even getting creative with fillings. Smothered in a shallot and garlic mushroom duxelle, their classic filet mignon is a standby, but they’ve also got double cheeseburger, a breakfast-inspired take stuffed with egg, hash browns, and turkey sausage, and a dessert version oozing Nutella and cannoli cream. Wellys are delivered either ready to bake or already baked.

Of course, ordering takeout or delivery from here means you’re limited on your choice of artisanal mezcals; Madre’s renowned as a mezcaleria and carries hundreds of options, many of which are sourced from small, indie producers. But have no fear: depending on location, Madre also offers cocktails, margarita kits, and even a select few of their mezcal bottles to go.

When considering takeout and delivery meals, it’s important to factor in a bit of transit time—some things just don’t hold up over 15-ish minutes in a box on the front seat of a car. But that’s never a problem with the lovely kebab plates at Skaf’s—a little extra time just allows all the juice to fully saturate the rice beneath. The Kafta Kebab is a perfectly-spiced standout, their Shawarma is up there with the best in town, and if that transit time is a little shorter their Falafel are always fried just right.

Jeremy Fox’s indefinable concept highlights Eastern European cuisine through a California lens, with some midwestern and Southern influences as an homage to where he grew up, which yields some totally unique dishes. We’re not sure where the idea to combine Southern-style sage brown butter kugel with koji-marinated flatiron steak and date bundt cake came from, but we’re happy it’s here. Fox is also a father and places unparalleled emphasis on the kids menu, as in the potato-crusted chicken tenders with honey mustard, and the matzo pizza margherita. Birdie G’s is also selling batch cocktails, plus beer and wine.
