Where to Celebrate Chicago Black Restaurant Week
Now through February 26, raise a glass to Chicago’s Black-owned fine dining destinations, cafes, juice bars, barbecue joints, and more.
The eighth annual Chicago Black Restaurant Week is underway, bringing with it a celebration of Black culinary excellence and community building through food and drink. From February 12 through 26, 28 restaurants, cafes, and bars will offer unbeatable deals on cuisine, drinks, desserts, and more.
Black Restaurant Week was founded by Memphis native Lauren Smith back in 2015. Smith’s aim was to cultivate community through food and elevate and honor Black restaurant owners and chefs during Black History Month. Stay informed of all the deals and specials by checking out the participating restaurant’s websites, Facebook pages, and Instagram accounts—or better yet, skip the screens and drop in to taste for yourself.
Since its inception CBRW has highlighted over 200 restaurants in Chicago, and this year's diverse lineup is impressive. Prāzbar Chicago will be serving up non-alcoholic spirits, wine, and beer, while Mabe's Sandwich Shop is your one-stop shop for all things sandwich related. Prohibition-themed 1308 Chicago is the new kid on the block, with a spread of New American cuisine and craft cocktails, and Luella’s Southern Kitchen is your Southern comfort food go-to. And let's not forget the delicious vegan options like Sweet Vegan Bakes, Meek's Vegan Kitchen, and The Black Vegan Restaurant.
